Interview Process

Our application and interview process differs from role to role, for some roles you may be asked to conduct one or more phone interviews, an in-person or virtual interview.

Some teams at Amazon incorporate role-specific exercises or online assessments into the interview process. You will be notified if the role you’re interviewing for requires one of these.

Interview Tips

Be prepared to explain what interests you about the role and the team(s) you’ll be meeting with.
Be concise but detailed in your answers; the right level of detail can be difficult to gauge. A good test is to pause after your answer to ask if you’ve given enough detail or if the interviewer would like you to go into more depth.
“Why Amazon?” is a common question in our interviews. Help us understand what inspired you to explore an opportunity with us, so we can get a better sense of who you are.
If you’re asked a question but aren't given enough info to provide a solid answer, ask for clarification. If additional context isn't available, focus on how you'd attempt to solve the problem based the information given.
Your interviewer will likely leave a few minutes at the end of the interview to answer questions. If we don’t get to all of them, don’t hesitate to ask your recruiting point of contact.

Amazon Chime Messaging Platform

For phone interviews, video is not required and it may be scheduled to take place via our conferencing tool, Amazon Chime.

If you've been asked to do a remote/virtual interview, it will be scheduled to take place via our video conferencing tool, Amazon Chime.

If you're presenting, you'll need to download Chime to your desktop.

The meeting ID# will be emailed to you by your recruiting point of contact. For optimal sound quality, we suggedt that you use a headset with a microphone.

Interview Checklist: Phone & Virtual

Phone Interviews

Connection: If you're using a mobile phone, ensure you are in a place with proper coverage.
Duration: Each phone interview usually lasts between 30 minutes to an hour.
Questions: Come prepared with questions that you would like to explore in more detail about the interview process.

Phone & Virtual Interviews

Location: During your interview, try be in a quiet and comfortable place with minimal distractions.
Resume or CV: Interviewers will have a copy, but feel free to have one available for reference as well.
Chime: Your upcoming phone or virtual interview will be scheduled to take place via our video conferencing tool, Amazon Chime.
Accommodations: If you need an accommodation,or have questions or concerns, please reach out, as we ensure reasonable accommodations for all individuals.

Virtual Interviews

Connection: Ensure that your computer has a reliable connection and access to email.
Duration: Each interview in your panel usually lasts between 45 minutes and an hour.
Questions: Come prepared with questions that you would like to explore in more detail (e.g. initiatives/projects, team culture, scope of role). If you need clarity on anything, or have any additional follow-up questions, reach out to your recruiting point of contact.

Interview Checklist: In Person

Check in: Arrive 15 minutes early and check in for your interview. Have your government-issued photo ID ready (for example, your driver’s license or passport).
Location: You'll receive instructions via email. Some of our offices are dog-friendly. Let us know if you need an accommodation or have allergies.
Dress code: Comfortable and casual. While some roles in our fulfillment centers may require certain clothing for safety reasons (such as closed-toed shoes), in most of our offices people wear everyday clothes. We're interested in what you have to say, not what you’re wearing.

What to expect: Interviews will be a mixture of questions and discussions about your experience. Be ready with detailed examples. Concise, structured answers are best.
Interviewers: Depending on the role, you'll meet with two to seven people. They'll likely be managers, team members, stakeholders from related teams, and a Bar Raiser (usually a person from another team). All interviewers will assess your potential for growth beyond the position you’re interviewing for. They'll evaluate how well your background and skills meet core competencies, along with how they relate to our Leadership Principles. We recommend approaching each interviewer the same way, rather than tailoring answers to their role. Interviewers will also often take notes on their laptops.

Resume or CV: Interviewers will have a copy, but feel free to bring one as well.
Duration: Each interview in your panel usually lasts between 45 minutes and an hour.
Lunch: We’ll provide lunch if your interview is scheduled during the lunch hour. Let your point of contact or your lunch buddy know if you have dietary preferences.
Technical roles: If you're interviewing for a technical role, be prepared to white board.

Job Interview Do's & Don'ts

Do's

During your phone interview, try be in a quiet and comfortable place with minimal distractions.
Ensure you have a reliable internet connection and access to email.
Remember your resume details. In particular the experience most relevant to the role you're interviewing for.
Make a note of your questions. Come prepared with a notepad and questions that you would like to explore in more detail (e.g. initiatives/projects, team culture, scope of role).
Let us know if you need an accommodation, or have questions or concerns, as we ensure reasonable accommodations for all individuals.

Don'ts

Show up late to the interview. If for some reason on the day it's unavoidable, call ahead to let your interviewer know your expected time of arrival.
Volunteer your weaknesses. Whilst honesty is always the best policy, there is no need to volunteer your shortfalls unless asked directly.
Criticize your current or previous employer. Doing so could give your interviewer the impression you're difficult to work with.
Forget to ask your recruiter questions regarding benefits and compensation as your interviewer will not be equipped with those details.
